Van Gogh's Portrait of Camille Roulin 1888

Nobody starts off as a great artist. But we can assume that all have the potential to become great artists. This is the hope of all our young people. Greatness only comes by hard work and perseverance. Consider those who excel in any field. Many started their craft early in life, but they didn’t start off great...their skills had to be developed. Look at the word masterpieces in the adult section of this website. A high caliber of speed and word formation can be achieved, but for grade school age children just starting off, play may be slow and word formation simple. Patience and perfect practice will pay off.
Consider the piano...a great artist can masterfully play the most difficult works of Beethoven while a child struggles to play Chopsticks...yet it is the same piano. There is no junior version of Word-sport™. The same letter tiles are played regardless of age. The large, easy handle, easy read letter tiles will be very inviting to play. Kids can start off playing individual (stray) words. As skills develop, they will recognize the inter connection between then amongst words. The child my play by himself/herself in a solitary style or with others of the same age level. Then the timer clock may be used to introduce the sense of urgency. Use the optional “Wild Tiles” to make the game even more fun.
Below are pictures of made up word art. First, we illustrate simple individual words (referred to as strays in adult play), then we move on to better examples of word play in multiple and single grids. Click on pictures to enlarge.
