Gama Convetion in Las Vegas At the Riveria Hotel March, 2005

I went to the Gama Games convention to network with the experts in the games industry. Unlike the New York Toy Fair which is for toys and games... this convention is targeted to the games industry. We were at the Riveria Hotel, one of the last “Rat Pack” establishments, at the north end of the Las Vegas Strip. The Riveria is where Liberace once ruled supreme.

The Gama Convention is geared to the fantasy and role playing games, while Word-Sport is more main stream... so I felt like and outsider with my word game. However, I felt a bond to these game makers since we share the same struggle. The seminars were very informative as I attended most of them on through out the four day convention.

Sign Of the Killer Bunnies I’m constantly looking for signs that one day my game will be successful. Aldo Ghiozzi of Impressions Marketing out of Brentwood, CA. was giving a marketing session in which he told the story of a non-collectible, but expandable card game called “The Killer Bunnies”. He said they went on from 1980 till 1991 when they finally hit it big. That is they persevered for 11 years... many people would have given up years earlier.

When I arrived home, I looked up their site at www.killerbunnies.com. I was stunned to see how the menu bar layout is similar to that of Word-Sport™. Perhaps that is a sign for me to preserve... after all I’m only in my fifth year with Word-Sport.

In conclusion...  Though I don’t feel that I fit in the Gama following, I had a very enjoyable time. As they say, Las Vegas was fabulous! I did much sight seeing, visiting the Hoover Dam, the Freemont Street Experience and just walking up and down the strip through out the splendid hotels and casinos. I may go next year to another Gama Convention as it was an exciting March getaway.
